Ed Wong, a Western professor of biology and environmental studies, is studying the lake mussels’ DNA. He has gotten mussel samples from nearby bodies of water, the Hudson River, Lake Champlain and Laurel Lake in Lee, Mass., to find DNA matches.

Wong said researchers have long suspected that Laurel Lake, which feeds into the Housatonic River, which, in turn, creates Lillinonah and Zoar, is sending mussels downstream. His studies may provide that link.
