PAST FEDERATION NEWS...
Wallingford Bassmasters Girl Scout Fishing Derby
On June 3rd, 2006
under gray skies, more that 65 Wallingford Girl Scouts along with
their partners came to the shores of Mackenzie Reservoir in
Wallingford for a Town Wide Fishing Derby. The girls came fully
prepared for a morning of fishing with rods, coolers, chairs and of
course rain gear. The morning started with the horn blasting at
7:30 to signal the start of the derby. It didn't take long for
Kristen Cappetta to come up to the Wallingford Bassmasters weigh-in
tent with the first catch of the day. As the day progressed under
occasional heavy down pours many fish were being weighed in. The
girls needed to bring their fish directly to the weigh in tent upon
being caught to ensure the fish would be returned to the water
alive. All fish were caught in the catch and release basis. By the
end of the derby there were many fish caught including yellow perch,
calico bass, sunfish and even catfish. There was also a snapping
turtle caught by Laureen Blum who received the trophy for the most
unusual catch of the day. The top winners for the biggest fish were
Anna Carbuti-1st, Nicole Connelly-2nd and Brianna Eroh-3rd. All
were awarded trophies for their fish. After the horn blasted
signaling the end of the derby, the girls gathered for a raffle.
Special thanks to Lunker City, Tournament Force tackle, Uncle B's
Bait and Tackle and the CBFN for their generous donations. Even
though Mother Nature was not necessarily on our side that day, a
great time was had by all.
